Have you ever seen a spoonbill read?

About

Welcome to the Reading Spoonbill! We are two friends and co-workers who have bonded through work-related trauma (what work besties haven’t?), a love of reading, gaming, and lots of other things. After reading way too many books in 2024, and having way too many thoughts on those books, we decided it was time to start a reading blog. All of the words expressed on this blog are our opinions, and they are only meant to encourage discussion, entertain, help other readers decide what to read (or how they felt about what they read), and be an outlet for good-natured opinions. We do not like everything we read, but we fully respect the fact that someone had the idea and made it happen.

Have you ever seen a spoonbill read?

WHAT’S WITH THE SPOONBILL?
Ok SO. We live in a certain part of Florida where the roseate spoonbill lives freely and can be seen frequently. The part of Florida we live in also happens to be overrun by tourists for much of the year, and for obvious reasons, they tend to be fascinated by the roseate spoonbill–it does give fantasy vibes.

On one of our encounters with a tourist, we were enthusiastically asked, “Hey! Have you ever seen a spoonbill eat?!” …of course we have, but the question became an inside joke for us in our friend group, and also became our personality.

Meet Bailey…

All mess. Stress. And Van Gogh obsessed…. “We’re gonna need a Ouija board…”

Bailey has always been captivated by a good story, whether it’s through the pages of a book, the world of a video game, or the fine details of a finished painting.

She most enjoys reading romance and fantasy — especially if it includes extra spice, laugh-out-loud humor, mystery, magic, modern myth, vampires, and the timeless enemies-to-lovers trope.

When she’s not lost in another world, Bailey enjoys spending time with her dog, Scooby, and working in the local arts scene. Whether she’s organizing opportunities for artists, playing a cozy game, or devouring a new book, Bailey is always chasing after a new adventure and a creative story.
